Juewen Zhang’s large-scale charcoal paintings, drawings and paintings are characterized by a special form of naturalistic precision. By intensively observing the world around him, Zhang creates a depth in his works that not only depicts reality, but also reveals the material and the working process. In his drawings of hair and hands, he creates intimate and equally anonymous portraits of people who surround him. Moreover, the artist has a great passion for Vans. To him, Vans are “the most beautiful shoes in the world,” which he demonstrates in a unique artistic form: his paper-crafted Vans models, reaching up to eight meters in length, quite literally confront the viewer. Born in Berlin in 1995, he lives and works in Langen and Frankfurt am Main. Since 2019, he has been studying at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach.
