NO37 Création du monde no. 1

Julia Krause-Harder
Goldstein Galerie, Frankfurt am Main

9 May – 15 June 2019

Création du monde no. 1 (The Creation of the World) is a comprehensive map of the world covering over 200m², made from a wide variety of mainly textile materials. With this textile collage, Julia Krause-Harder has presented an artistic conclusion of her previous endeavours to provide an overview.

Through travel and research, she has devoted herself for years to geography, both practically and theoretically. With her work she now shows her perspective on the world, in which actual and desirable borderlines become apparent, changing forms of government and political as well as cultural climates meet. The various materials are closely interwoven, entangled and sewn together. The most diverse structures, colours and patterns thus create a heterogeneous and relief-like picture.

The textile collage comprises seven parts that Julia Krause-Harder was unable to put together during a two-year working process and thus never saw the world map in its entirety.
The presentation concept follows this fact and focuses on South America in Création du monde no. 1

In this context, Krause-Harder is also showing for the first time a multi-part ceramic entitledStaurikosaurus, which in size and form refers to a fossil find in South America.
