Markus Schmitz works with the technique of papercutting, which he has developed into a contemporary means of artistic expression. His pieces begin as complex drawings, which he transforms into precise cut-outs through a two-step abstraction process. For the presentation within the parcours, a cut-out originally created from paper has, for the first time, been translated into a weather-resistant metal installation.
A large-scale work like the one Markus Schmitz presents here requires time—both from the artist and from those viewing it.
