The Goldstein Gallery begins the year with a new exhibition series: through several solo exhibitions, the gallery focuses on the artists of Atelier Goldstein and provides extensive visibility for their work. Kicking off the series, the Goldstein Gallery invites you to the opening of the exhibition “Ewiges Leben” featuring works by Hans-Jörg Georgi on January 31. Georgi has been active at Atelier Goldstein for several decades and has been creating large multi-story airplanes for over 50 years.
These flying ships, made from cardboard, are designed for a very specific moment: the day when Earth is no longer habitable. On that day, they will serve humanity as autonomous, flying cities leading into a new, eternal future. While Georgi’s work on real existing airplane models aligns with the tradition and present of aviation, each of his multi-story creations marks a departure from this history. He elevates transit to a permanent state, removes the destination from the journey, and transforms transportation into a means of survival. Georgi’s works envision a world beyond the present, where imagination and technology merge into a hopeful rescue.
The exhibition showcases a wide variety of sculptures and drawings created over the years. The artist’s works are part of collections including the Museum of Everything (London) and the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris).
