On July 5, the group exhibition “Crip Stories” opens at the De Lovie Castle Park in Belgium. Among the works on display is a large-scale, twelve-part drawing by Goldstein artist\u00a0Dustin Eckhardt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This exhibition project is organized by the Belgian arts organization\u00a0Wit.h, which brings together international artists whose access to the art world and its institutions is not always a given. At the heart of the exhibition lies the question:\u00a0Do we need an artist\u2019s biography to understand their artwork?<\/em> The question is inspired by the song\u00a0\u201cThe Crip Song\u201d\u00a0by author\u00a0Piet Devos, which explores the meaning of the word \u201cCrip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dustin Eckhardt\u00a0regularly explores his hometown of Frankfurt and the surrounding area. He records his observations in drawings, combining his personal impressions with photography and online image research. The resulting works merge multiple perspectives. His artistic method is reminiscent of medieval pattern books. The romantic image of an artist wandering through nature with a sketchbook takes on an urban character in Eckhardt\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
