Georg Vaternahm gave himself the artists name Selbermann – self is the man. For Selbermann there is no definite line between his art and his life – they merge perfectly. With his camera he is constantly on the lookout for images, especially people, women in particular and buildings, a reoccurring theme are church spires and towers. Selbermann uses the photographic images when they are developed as his inspiration for his drawings, working onto paper and canvas or on the pavement outside his house, or in sand in the park. Selbermann loves to travel and can remember years later the landmark of any city whether Vienna, Frankfurt, Dessau , Paris and redraw it from memory. Nobody and nothing is forgotten in Selbermann`s world, it all becomes a part of the biography /a detail in the artistic life work of Georg Vaternahm.
